Rosh Hashana Seder Cookbook

A group effort, and the recipes of many of our members, has resulted in this precious cookbook, which for the moment is only in English. It was designed to show the beautiful Sephardic tradition of the Rosh Hashanah Seder as well as the cuisines within CJRM. It also offers ideas to whomever is interested in organizing their own Seder with recipes and tools to carry it out.

Following the structure of a Sephardic Rosh Hashanah Seder, the recipes in the book are sorted into nine sections, each one dedicated to a siman, or symbolic element that we use in the Community: squash, beet, beans, leek, apple, honey, pomegranate, dates and fish.

Being a diverse community, the recipes’ cuisine vary among Sephardic, Ashkenazi or Mizrahi, along with adaptations of non-Jewish recipes for a new year holiday.

At the end of the book, distinct types of menus are listed, following the season or the geography that represents a particular tradition: for example, among the options are an Ottoman-Sephardic menu, an Israeli menu and a CRJM menu.
